Hello Reader,
So you know you want to memorize lines more efficiently, but maybe you don’t know where to start. I want to help you out by telling you my #1 tip that really packs the biggest punch! It’s a small adjustment, but it makes a HUGE difference, and can end up saving you A LOT of time.
It’s based on two main learning principles - the testing effect (aka retrieval practice) and spaced repetition.
Here is the tip for you:
Don’t spend a lot of time reading your lines over and over on the page. After initially learning the script, practice recalling the lines from your memory. Make an effort to find the words from within. If you’re ever not sure, GUESS FIRST, then check your script. Also, don’t just repeat the lines over and over again continuously. Space out the repetitions over time. Take breaks in between them.
If you want to learn lines faster, use shorter spaced intervals. For example:
First Repetition: After 5 minutes
Second Repetition: After 10 minutes
Third Repetition: After 20 minutes
Fourth Repetition: After 30 minutes
And so on...
If you want to remember your lines for longer, use longer intervals. Perhaps try:
First Repetition: After 1 hour
Second Repetition: After 6 hours
Third Repetition: After 24 hours
Fourth Repetition: After 3 days
You can adjust your spaced intervals as needed. Feel free to experiment and find what works best for you!
Don’t be discouraged if you find it difficult to recall the lines. The effort and difficulty it takes to recall the memory is what STRENGTHENS the memory.
That’s it. Simple, right? With this one little strategy, you will actually be able to remember MORE by studying LESS!
